Ballymaloe Cottage is a family run 18th century cottage, owned by the O'Brien family. The Cottage was once part of the great Fitzgerald estate of Imokilly. Nearby are the world famous Ballymaloe House restaurant and cookery school. Also near is Barnabrow Country House. Just a few minutes away lie the beaches of Shanagarry and Garryvoe, and the village of Ballycotton, renowned for its sea angling, bird sanctuary and quaint restaurants and pubs. Also near are Midleton Distillery, Fota Wild Life Park, Cobh Heritage Centre and the historical town of Youghal. East Cork is renowned for its excellent golf courses including the East Cork, Water Rock and Fota Island golf clubs. The Fota Island club was home to the Irish Open on two occasions. The nearby town of Cloyne has a medieval cathedral and a 9th century round tower. A monument to one of Ireland's greatest sporting heroes, Christy Ring, stands proudly. A visit to Cloyne is not complete without a meal in Harty's restaurant. Your hosts are Noel and Ann-Marie O'Brien. Noel is a national tour guide and would be delighted to show you the many places of interest, and can arrange scenic and historical tours, fishing, shooting, and walking and hiking tours. The Cottage is now a luxurious guest house, with all rooms en suite. Surrounded by beautiful countryside, it nestles in the heart of the fertile plains of East Cork.
